Cox Enterprises Donates $100,000 to American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Victims

Nov 12, 2012

ATLANTA, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Enterprises, in partnership with The James M. Cox Foundation, announced today a combined cash donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross to assist the relief and recovery efforts of the communities affected by Hurricane Sandy.

"Our company has a history of supporting the communities where we operate," said Jim Kennedy, chairman of Cox Enterprises. "This storm left incredible damage, and we believe it's important to empower our employees and communities during this time of recovery."

The storm impacted the East Coast where the company's cable subsidiary (Cox Communications) operates in New England and Virginia, as well as multiple Manheim and Cox Media Group locations. In addition to the $100,000 donation, Cox properties have provided support in the areas impacted by the storm. Some examples include:

  • AutoTrader.com and Cox Communications provided in-kind support for the American Red Cross through banner ads and public service announcements.
  • Select Manheim auto auctions in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast are donating $5 to the American Red Cross for every flood damaged vehicle registered and sold through Dec. 31.
  • Cox Media Group's radio stations that operate in the impacted areas provided vital updates round-the-clock.

Cox's impacted employees also have the opportunity to receive support through the Cox Employee Relief Fund (CERF). Created in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the fund provides essential assistance to Cox employees and their families who are impacted by disasters.  Since 2005, CERF has provided more than $3 million to assist more than 1,500 employees affected by hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and other devastating events.
